I don't think Swift has ever stated exactly why they disabled the driver facing side of their cameras. It happened just before the Knight deal was announced though, so the execs at Knight must have had a say in it.

I have to believe you're right about it killing their employee stats though. I know I quit Swift for this very reason.

It sure wouldn’t have needed a camera for that driver to get nailed to the wall. Just the accident investigation would’ve done that.

I posted this somewhere else a while back but here is what our corporate safety director basically said.
After a crash they can review the video and determine if the driver was at fault. If the driver was at fault they can then get in front of the issue and try to settle with the other party quickly.
Pilot program with the New York trucks and I haven't heard anything since other than this. Less than two weeks after they were installed, a driver got in an accident and it was his fault. The other parties refused the quick settlement.

And if it weren’t available, one would have less evidence against himself.

One thing that has frosted me is all this monitoring that has been going on since the day of the QC. I'm retired so I don't really have a dog in this discussion. However, I am NOT a fan of driver facing camera's and if I were still active and discovered one in my truck I would park the truck or place something over it. If safety contacts me about it, well my reply would be where do you want me to park the truck? I would also add that ALL the people in the terminals should have these camera's on them. EVERYBODY. Then let the drivers view them at work! next thing you know the DOT will want a camera mounted in your bedroom or sleeper to ensure you are sleeping. This crap is stupid and I'm getting sick and tired of it!

Ok, Moose, if you're retired, then calm down, let this industry go down the crapper. I'm retired and couldn't give a dingle. People in terminals and fork lifts don't endanger the public, at least not directly, like a truck driver. I think it's comical companies have to resort to these tactics. Most of my bosses knew I was on the level, and there was no need for this foolishness. Why anyone would want to stay in this industry, unless they know no different, is beyond me.:banghead:

Company I work for has no dash cams at all. But I bought one anyway.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

They don’t “have” to resort to anything of the sort as far as I’m concerned.

All they have to do is pay well, demand a honest day’s for that pay, and show the dead wood the door quickly and as often as required. That alone would do wonders for morale.

Unfortunately, politics usually gets in the way of something that should be simple.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
