This works especially well when you are getting out to open or close the doors on the trailer. . .:biggrin_25526:

OK, I know I shouldn't make light of this. It is a sad situation, and one that can be so easily avoided. And who of us has NOT screwed up in some way, at some time, that could have resulted in injury or death to us or someone else. . .:biggrin_2557:

A coworker of mine backed into a dock, forgot to set the brakes and left the truck in neutral. Company policy says we are also supposed to chock a tire every time, so UPS if you are reading this, I always do it:yes2557:

Anyways, the forklift driver drove in, started backing out and the truck rolled away from the dock. Forklift with the driver on it fell to the ground below, landing on its wheels.

The driver was fired on the spot, but got his job back (union) 2 weeks later.

The driver who did this is a very good friend of mine, but there is no excuse for this. The forklift driver could have been killed because of the drivers negligence.

I always check to make sure the brake is set before leaving the truck. When I drove tour buses, I would stop, put it in neutral, set the brakes and put it on high idle. The bus wouldn't go to high idle unless the brakes are set and the bus is in neutral, so when it went to high idle, I knew that I had all the proper safety items in place.
