Umm, the company he was leased to is the one that provides the comprehensive insurance in case of collision. He may not have had physical damage on HIS tractor, but that wouldn't affect you or your truck.

As far as the OP, his original post said nothing about leasing, but the results would be the same if he hurt someone in a crash. The uninsured owner of the truck would be held financially responsible, if not criminally negligent depending on the state.

It's not just an insurance thing. New drivers are risky from a safety and maintenance standpoint and also from a turnover standpoint. It's expensive to hire a driver and have a truck sitting waiting for said driver to be ready to drive it. Also, new drivers make mistakes just like anybody new in a field. It's easier for a large company to absorb those mistakes. Once you have a few years experience smaller (better) company jobs become available. Sort of like paying your dues.

To answer your original post, I would strongly discourage you from starting your driving career in a bad way. If something happens or you get caught your going to pretty much be locked out of this industry. Do it right, be patient, work hard and learn and you'll get where you want to be.

my plan is to put a experinced driver in the truck while i go to drive for prime and get some flatbed experience. I agree i need to be patient and do this the rite way so that i don't get black listed because i have noticed that this is the toughest industry to get back in after you make a mistake.
