Let me put it this way. One of my friends and i were talking about hourly pay. He said he would hate to be paid hourly since he ran 2 loads and it took a total of 23 on duty hours. His net was $2156. He basically netted $93/hour with those runs put together. Who in the world is gonna pay a company driver that much per hour? Please, id love to know.

Ill keep my mileage pay, and ill take my hourly pay for detention thank you

He is company, only thing different is he's a car hauler. Been with the company 12 years. He gets a huge chunk because its a very small company, him and 6 other trucks. He runs the south east. I've seen his paychecks. He's also my neighbors dad.

I on the other hand am a company van driver, I make 32cpm. I still wouldn't want to be paid hourly.

All I can say is if car hauling was really that profitable every carrier in North America would be doing it.

Idk what kinda cars he hauls. I have no info about that part of the industry. All I know is I've seen the mans paycheck. I'm just throwing out what I do know. He probably gets paid for every car he unloads or something. He tried to get me to do it but i don't want to haul cars, not my dream.

Car hauling IS that profitable. Cassens, one of the major car hauling companies, pays $1.13/mile, plus stop pay.. home every night, Monday-Friday.. occasional night or two out, but they put you up in a hotel room. It is Teamsters. My buddy is making easily $2,000 a week, if not more sometimes. Not everyone does it, because it is a lot of work, and lets face it, most drivers are lazy.

Thank you, I texted my neighbor. Said his dad gets $2.45/mile plus $36/stop. He can have up to 4-5 stops in one day.

Say he gets to a place and it takes home 20 minutes to unload 2 cars. That's $72 in 20 minutes! So yeah, I believe his paychecks.

But he stays out for 15 days and takes a week off at a time. My neighbors gonna try to get his cdl so he can team with his dad.

true - so true but probably a few "got it together" companies could try to make it work using drivers that have been there & stable for a decade ...... could be an "icing at the mountain" that could become an industry incentive as anyone that can make it a decade ( or maybe million milers or something ~ some total tonnage or raw-trip count ) then those and only those get to ask to be in program or be invited in that program

seems to me a company with real staying power in competitive business would see the value of at least trying to see if it can work:biggrin_2558:

I think you have to keep the pay per mile to have the incentive to work and reward those that do. It seems to me the crappy part is the pay for things outside of a drivers control such as layover, breakdown, detention, etc.

But then what the heck do I know, I'm just a wanna-be.
