$3000 per mo per truck a month is kinda optimistic for a new start up. Figure that would be around .25 a mile, kinda hard to squeeze out of today's market.
As part of your research you need to read the business news.
Here is one indicator of a tough market.

Sounds like you have zero truck experience so need enough money to support ten truck to start with.
Most drivers on percentage make 25% excluding FSC. Never herd of a 50/50 split before.TransportQueen Thanks this. -
I knew exactly what i was getting into on the forum. You guys and girls have been in the business for a while and the opinions...good or bad are well recieved. My feelings are far from hurt. I put myself out there to be helped and that's fine by me.
Thanks for the comment. Didn't know the softening economy and the extra tractors that came in from the drowning oil market added so much more to the market.
I'll keep reading and please by all means reel me in on missing angles. I appreciate it. My research continues -
Yeah $3,000/mo/truck......that's a goal for sure.
Just as a rough idea:
- figure 2000 loaded (paying) miles a week*** x 4 weeks = 8000 miles/month.
-20% dead miles = 9600 miles/month
-9600 miles/month x $1/mile costs*** before driver = $9600/month costs
-$3,000/month profit + $9600 = required revenue of 12,600/month
-$12,600/8000 loaded miles = $1.57/mile required before driver costs and income taxes
***mileage may varyDye Guardian and TransportQueen Thank this. -
I worked for 50 50 back some time ago...was the biggest sewing I got from trucking so far.

50/50 Is kinda hard unless you have some way of having tons of high paying freight. But, you could just do the math and see how much you can afford. If you use $1.50 as your revenue and your expenses at $1 then you only have $0.50 left to pay your drive and yourself. Split that and it would be $ 625 on 2500 miles ($0.50X2500). No driver will drive for that low a wage. That will be good for you because you are getting $3,125 on the whole fleet ($625X5 trucks).
And before anybody goes crazy about the rate or the expenses, I was just using simple numbers for illustration only!! -
At 3000 a month per truck Swift would be clearing half a billion a year.
