As someone who has had his identity hacked 4 years ago and is still trying to get crap off my record so I can finance the dental implants I need, I limit who can see my drivers license to those who have a valid LEGAL purpose to see it(essentially for employment, medical and banking issues plus if you carry a badge and a weapon and you need to give me a citation or if I have been involved in a collision)..... I certainly don't permit you recording the information in any way outside of that, people I share DNA with aren't even included.
What legal precedent makes shippers and receivers think they have the legal rights to do that? I usually try to use my TWIC card as ID for this particular issue, as it is federally issued and doesn't have any personal identifying information on it. But noooooo, I still have shippers(one just yesterday), that wanted to not only SEE my CDL, but actually COPY it..... if all they are doing is verifying that I have it on me, that would be one thing.... but they actually took a picture of it.
Driver rant.... shippers/receivers and driver identification

Can put your photo on it.
It's considered a "joke" or "souvenir" license, so not illegal unless you try to get a bank loan or something like that. Those mentally challenged shipper and receiving clerks won't know the difference.Canadianhauler21, CargoWahgo, Northern Nomad and 18 others Thank this. -
In many states just tell them you are here illegally and they will give you a license.

Get a license with your name as Inigo Montoya.
That way you can say
" My name is Inigo Montoya........86scotty, Truckermania, swervyjoe and 5 others Thank this. -
I think they feel they need a copy of your license in case you steal from them or damage something and run so they can call the law with your info. That is the only logical reason I could see for that policy. Kinda like how you used to have to give a truckstop clerk your license to get the pump turned on before all the pump start or pay at the pump was availiable just in case you had the idea to pump and run without paying.650cat425, BigDog Trucker, bentstrider83 and 2 others Thank this. -
Ask them why they need to see your drivers license. If it is to confirm your identification, then show them your company ID/Badge. If they say it is to write down your soundex code/license number.... not happening.

Here's that television celebrity that was deported to Italy. He was on "Real Housewives of New Jersey."
This license is fake except for the photo. He actually had one himself even though he had a legal New Jersey license. I don't know why he had one except as a souvenir to show off. Perfectly legal for him to have that.
Can buy them at certain casino's here in Las Vegas. Tourists buy them to show their friends back home, "Look at my Vegas drivers license."

I disagree with this policy. Should be a Privacy Law against it, with all the fraud taking place. The practice will probably continue, until someone’s identity gets stolen, and someone gets sued for it.

This is a fake/souvenir Nevada license. The ones you buy in casino's have a Las Vegas address.
TheLoadOut and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
