When I have been asked for ID, specifically my license.
I ask what the intended purpose is. If they state they make a copy of it. I immediately ask for a copy of the privacy policy. No policy, no ID.

    In my experience:

1/2 of all shoppers and receivers ask for license.

of those that ask, about 50% just look at it and give it back and the other 50% will either write down all the information on your license, or make a photocopy. I have a problem with both of those last two. They are not entitled to my personal and private information simply because I’m picking up or dropping off a load.

This little situation a lot of us drivers don’t care for will be remedied like everything else, via a lawsuit. Some guy will have his identity stolen and sustained significant damage and it will be traced back to some shipper and receiver at a lawsuit will ensue and then policy will change. Unfortunately that’s the world we live in today.

It’s the same crap just in a different way that we see every day. I’ve been an over the road driver for two years and the amount of disrespect I’ve had to endure is unprecedented to anything else I’ve done before. Now my fellow truckers, they show respect to each other. Most of them anyhow. But everyone else? Not happening.

Maybe you should have a pre-written form for those that actually want to make a copy of your drivers license. Something to the effect that they are now responsible for your personal information and if they negligently handle it your lawyer will be in contact.

I think its funny u guys actually think those low life security guards are capable of stealing ur information and using it for anything. I mean half those guards are braindead and the other half are just stupid

Well, if you're about to haul 100K worth of 'my stuff' going to wherever I'd sure would want to see some proof of who you are.

It doesn't make sense to me how someone with ZERO skin in the game can make any demands behond the price to haul the load.

I routinely haul 4-10 million dollars of aircraft parts, never had my I’d checked. I guess they are just trusting?

    • Maybe but assuming that a facility that ask for ID is somehow doing it for some ill willed intentions is just tin foil hat stuff imo.

Even if they are capable, it's a high effort way to do it. Much easier to slid a credit card skimmer on an atm for a couple of hours, or do email phishing, or go to the dark web and buy 50,000 account profiles from any of the dozens of major breaches in the last 12 months.

Put a credit freeze on your credit reports. If your credit is frozen nobody, not even you, can open credit in your name. Get a Credit Freeze, not Life Lock, not Credit Monitoring, not Credit Lock, not something similar, but a Credit Freeze. It's free.

I bet the plant that makes those parts has less security than the little girl dress up warehouse. Those dresses present a much higher theft risk - easy to fence and untraceable.

And let's not forget about the nut thefts:
The Curious Case of the Disappearing Nuts

And I think with booze the shipper has to pay the excise tax even if the load is stolen.
