Every time I hear about autonomous trucks I think of the movie Trucks from the mid 90s. They all came to life and started killing people.
Driverless trucks around the corner!

A Democrats dream.
What will the welfare leeches do? They just know that no jobs is a good thing, at least for them.Dharok, Txdriver77, pattyj and 1 other person Thank this. -
If you want a good read about artificial intelligence with good intentions that goes very wrong, look up "A logic named Joe". Written in the 40s, it was rather predictive about the internet.
diesel drinker and Dharok Thank this. -
I don't put much faith in this guy...he wears a.... bow tie

You are right. But I can't figure out who they think is gonna buy everything if everyone is unemployed. Autonomy is coming to almost every industry. It isn't just a simple thing of finding a new career. All these engineers only prove that some people are too smart for their own good.diesel drinker Thanks this.

Universal welfare, massive nationalization of these automated industries, all carried on the backs of the few with rare skills.
Oh yeah, and Otto made a beer run today:

I hae been tearing this pie in sky dreams apart regarding driver less trucks.
Go ahead, send out 1000 trucks 2000 miles cross country. See how long the wrecker calls pile up in a winter storm that catches most of them.... God does not have enough rotators for all of them. Half will get lost, some will smash bridges and people will get hurt when they brake check and get run over. On and on and on. Maybe my favorite... boom a Roanoke In Motion Scale at 70 mph disregarding the nice little red light....
Or worse, I 95, Maryland NE of Baltimore. It has a habit of all 4 or 5 lanes slamming on brakes instant stop as a herd. What is that 40 ton truck computer gonna do when it's not programmed to deal with such a no win situation. Or perhaps in houston downtown traffic turning left and it is itself CUT OFF by someone, stops instantly, slamming the one behind under the ICC bumper?
Someone will STILL have to dock, unload, load, count etc etc etc. 100 computer trucks arriving at 1:15 am sharp against your pathetic 20 dock facility manned by 10 forklifts, half of which are feeding union store trucks on the far side... it's not going to happen.
As a former IT student I salviate at a prospect of a new occupation. Running about Arkansas at 120,000 a year on call 24/7 rebooting bricked trucks.... SCORE!!!! -
It won't replace us completely at first, but our pay will definitely will be cut out if all were doing is driving couple of miles off highway to destination and back to highway like Otto described it... Maybe we'll get a minimum pay for just being out? I mean... Over the road pay sucks as it is... I gotta bust as and drive 600+ miles to make a decent day.. and not all days are like that... Don't even clear 1000 a week lol...

####ing. That's what they'll do and because of it have more children than can be sustained... Oh, wait... They already do that. Nvm.
Hey now. Bill Nye wears a bow tie and he's Boss.
