Dave of 'Smart Trucking' over on youtube recently noted that an executive at a big mega (I forget which one) suggested that any driver without an APU or ability to idle only had to go to the drivers lounge at truck stops to sleep if they were feeling hot or cold. Dave found that an insulting and impractical suggestion, as do I.
Drivers in sleeper.. 87F no idle no APU

I’m surprised none of the drivers for that company have stabbed an ice pick into the Freon line of the AC at company HQBean Jr., W923, Gearjammin' Penguin and 5 others Thank this.

They have camel genes. They never get hot and can survive with little water.

Once upon a time when I drove for Nebraska Atlantic I got chewed out over my idle time ( in july) , when the guy was done I told him to cancel his golf game because was he going to be going jersey that weekend.
20 minutes later I was at the terminal throwing my stuff out of the truck and waved goodbye.Bean Jr., Gearjammin' Penguin, Stringb8n and 8 others Thank this. -
Do they open the windows? Probably just relaxing but not sleeping. If I got all the windows open I can relax in a sleeper with no ac up until about 90F. I just can’t sleep so before I go to sleep I’ll shut the windows and turn on the apu.

Not everybody is comfortable at the same temp. I've worked with Africans and an Iranian that started putting on sweaters or jackets if you set the office temp to less than 80 F. Also, there are battery-based APUS and people comfortable ENOUGH if there is enough air from a fan. Let people fight their own battles, or don't borrow someone else's problem. If those drivers resting in 87 F sleepers aren't worried about their own situation to change it, you only gain points on your blood pressure by thinking about it for them. If it was so bad, they would work elsewhere.Last edited: Apr 20, 2023

I'm sure the Exec for that Mega company didn't know that there are upwards of 5% of truck stops with a driver's lounge anymore and ALL of them have TVs playing loud enough to be heard across the street.Bean Jr., hope not dumb twucker and bzinger Thank this.
