I just give them my number or whatever else they want.

What are they going to do with my driver license or social security number ?
Are they really going to buy a house or take a trip with that info?

I can see photocopying a truck driver's license, NOT actually holding onto it at all.

I know that I would feel very uncomfortable having another individual actually holding onto my license.

All this would put the truck driver in a very bad, if not outright uncomfortable position, in every which way possible.

only 2 places i have ever been to, wanted to SEE my license, and the guard wrote down the information.(and i verified that with the receiving office)

i could care less, if that's the policy, it makes for a quick in/out, rather than to debate someone's policy.

Be careful, someone back at the office, of the trucking company that you work for, may see that and call you up on that.

I've been told they do it because most of the time you just need a pickup number show up and they load you. Then you could disappear into the night never to be heard from again. Just the customer trying to protect themselves.
I hate it myself. Now you know where I live and that I am not at home. Would be easy target for a thieves network...
