I pay % to my drivers when it’s OTR work. Sometimes drivers make $50+ / hour and other times they make $25. It’s really the law of averages when it’s OTR work. In a 7 day period if you average $30 / hour, you’re happy.
Any work that’s near home is paid by the hour.

Krajack was like that with the Owner Operators, not just the rate but a copy but a carbon copy of the customer's invoice for the load. That's how it was done in the old days!Coffey Thanks this.

Percentage or hourly is the way to go, most amount of money for the least amount of work, being paid by the mile is just keeping you a slave to run for pennies on the dollar
Coffey, Rideandrepair, slow.rider and 1 other person Thank this. -
I run for 30% of gross to the truck, tarp pay I get 100% of tarp charge if there is one. I’m through the house once or twice a week, generally off Friday early to mid afternoon and out Monday 0400-0700 depending. A low week for me is 4000 best week has been 9000 to the truck though I did leave Sunday afternoon on the 9000$ week.
I like manuals, Coffey, spindrift and 1 other person Thank this. -
You made 29.5 of whatever the truck owners told you the truck made.
I will never be happy with percentage pay unless the customer/broker independently lets me know what they paid the company to haul the load.NorthEastTrucker and WildTiger1990 Thank this. -
I pay my drivers on percentage. 24% of full gross of everything to include FSC. Plus $52.80 per diem for every night they are in the truck. Our biggest customer has the rate on the sheet where you sign out at the scale house, and they are sent the rate con for any broker loads. If 1 were to every doubt the pay I would show them every single peace of Info including bill and check. Nothing to hide from them and I don’t want them to have any reason to doubt me. 1 has been with me 5 years, another 4.5 and added another truck Feb of 2020 and he’s been with me since then. I pay on w-2 and provide health insurance for my drivers and 5 days paid vacation. I also throw in a bonus when we have a good quarter. They make between 70 to 80 k per year and are home almost every weekend. I also throw in a little something if their truck has to be in the shop for more than a couple of dayS when at home and an extra $100 per day plus a hotel if they are broke down on the road. Still hard to find drivers.
bzinger, Coffey, scott180 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Not a bad deal. Surprised at the % of FSC though. I like running for my guy. Wasn’t looking for a job when I met him but impressed me enough to keep him in mind when I decided I wanted to leave R&L

To much math and figuring to try to separate it all. Just easier to keep it all straight paying on the gross before anything comes out..Coffey and slow.rider Thank this.

Makes sense. Math makes my eyes hurtCoffey, slow.rider and mc8541ss Thank this.
