The guys in the shipping office will probably all be laughing about how they gave you the wrong directions and how they'll be hoping they'll be outside when you get stuck in the coldisac.
I use Google maps just like any other map it's like having a Thomas guide for every city. With the exception it fits into the palm of your hand, and you don't have to buy a box full of maps.
Also I can look up ant company anywhere within seconds.Last edited: Sep 5, 2014
TLeaHeart Thanks this. -
call me foolish, but very seldom do i have to make a phone call or pull out the atlas.
i bought my gps for a reason. and i am most certainly getting my money's worth.
argue all you want. but my gps works. and it knows the streets better then me. or the atlas. but i'm also not using a rand or garmin.
IF and WHEN the day comes that my gps steers me wrong. then maybe i'll agree with most of you. but untill that day comes. IF it ever does. i'm going to continue to disagree.
not all gps's are worthless. only the hand units. the smart phone apps, those work pretty darn good. and i'm not talking the internet kind either. -
Oh great, I was thinking of a speedometer check section, but you've obviously canvassed the area.
-
Yes this was meant as humor but I stand by my original statement in that my GPS speedometer is more accurate based on all the "YOUR SPEED" signs I pass by. Speedometer accuracy depends on trucks ability to count tire revolutions per mile and that seems suspect at best.
-
I don't know it my GPS speed is more accurate but I believe it the most.

Using a gps improves driver productivity, point blank.
What do airplane pilots use? GPS or paper maps?
What do ships use? GPS or paper maps?
What does the US Air Force use to conduct bombing runs gps or paper maps?
GPS is the answer to all of them.
Old people and old truck drivers complain about gps because they are afraid of new technology. And oh my god - I gps messed up one time and somebody turned down the wrong road. NOBODY EVER turned down a wrong road reading a paper map now did they?
Go back to your old foggy dreamworld of yesterday sitting in the truck stop talking on the pay phone and asking for directions roflmao. -
I agree about us seasoned drivers resisting the technology. Of the small fleet I work there are about 14 drivers of which I only have one driver younger than myself and we are the only two drivers who know anything about the internet or even can send a text. If not for my curiosity to find more nascar stories on the WWW maybe I would be one of them.
Not to mention the hundreds of drivers I ran with during my 23 years with the mega fleets. I have spent much time trying to find a few on facebook but they aren't there. -
so pimples McGee is going to tell us that trusting a GPS is the best way to go about truck driving. Ok next time your GPS tells you to turn right on Ave H and it turns out to be a one way, truck restricted road . Do t come back on here and make a bellyaching thread on how GPS can't be trusted.KAK Thanks this.

and the very same thing happens to those people who use paper maps, or directions from people who do not drive a semi....
