Have spoken to a couple companies... Millis, USExpress, both where very quick to discontinue our phone conversation, once they learned that I only have one working arm.
I know I can drive an Autoshift truck because I owned/drove a freightliner FL112 with an Autoshit in it for 2 1/2 years. It was licensed as a Motorcoach which did NOT require a CDL.
Do you all see anything other then loading / unloading that would be difficult to do with only one working arm? I work in a hardware store and use a pallet jack daily. Just trying to see what the deal is.
I'm also wondering why the USDOT has this issue for requiring a waiver to get CDL. With the Autoshift trucks, seems to me that the federal goverment is Breaking its own "No Discrimination Laws" I can understand them putting a restriction on my license for requiring an Autoshift.
I even have a CB radio with a Headset / Mic and a button on the floor to key the mic. This means that I DO NOT have to take my hand off the steering wheel in order to talk on the CB. I think I should start selling the setup. Might be that other truckers would like the idea of NOT having to hold the mic.
