Trucking Jobs in 30 seconds
Every month 400 people find a job with the help of TruckersReport.
-
There are 3,200,000 Canadian citizens who cannot find a job.
Truck drivers are already taking your advice. Trucking now has the same turnover of employees as fast food. I think that may have something to do with low wages and poor working conditions but thank-you for your sage advice.snafu Thanks this. -
I said Canada will need people in the coming decades. Since social programs are "paid forward" the current working generation pays for the current retired generation. People are not even having enough kids to replace themselves. Who will pay for your generation when it's your turn to collect?
I'm not suggesting that the trucking industry is a great place to work for most people, but if you're looking to Harper and blaming him, or looking for his replacement to fix your wages, you're looking in the wrong place.
As far as the 3,200, 000 our of work goes, (not sure where that number comes from) there are always people out of work at any particular time. That does not mean that the same people can't ever find work. Is you want work in Canada and you're willing to work, you can find it.
Clearly, some people who can, are not willing to work in the trucking industry. What do you say to them? Go on EI and you'll pay? Not effing likely!
Harper is a good leader and just because there are excesses in his government, doesn't mean that he's off the rails. He can't micro-manage every last nickel and dime.
Was the plight of the trucker any better under Jean Cretien? Hardly!Last edited: Jan 13, 2013

So we shouldn't want it to be better?
There is no shortage of truck driveres therefore we don't need to import cheap off shore truck drivers as all they do is driver already low and stagnant wages down.snafu Thanks this. -
Snafu blamed Harper for his low wages, as if Harper caused them by his government's immigration policies. Snafu's wages did not get worse because Harper is the PM.
I agree that there isn't a driver shortage, only a shortage if people willing to do this job for the wages being offered. But that's not Harper's fault either.
But there are many people who wouldn't do this job no matter what it paid. It's a hard job on many levels.
I'm an immigrant (38 years ago) English is my third language, dropped out of H. S. in grade 8, my father abandoned my family when I was 14, my mom worked at minimum wage (at first) and used to count her pennies to see if she had enough to buy toilet paper. I wouldn't count myself as privileged and don't feel sorry for myself either.
I'm also an O/O that cleared $100K, before taxes, last year on 10 months and 120,000 miles of work. Together with my wife we raise 3 kids on my paycheck.
Immigrant drivers don't harm me at all.Soloflyer Thanks this. -
Prime Minister Harper has more than doubled the number of Temporary Foreign Workers in Canada. Temporary Foreign Workers (aka Low Wage Slaves with no rights) now outnumber Canadian immigrants by a large margin.snafu Thanks this.

First off, my wages are not low.
But I do blame Harper for his policies since it HIS Harper Government which is encouraging these Temporary Foreign Worker programs which result in lower wages for others trying to compete with the cheap foreign workers coming in and stealing CANADIANS jobs

And those people are cooking and cleaning for us. Unless you want to or want your kids to do that, be thankful they are here to do that.
The kid that used to mow my lawn drove up to Grande Prairie AB last summer and after a week of applying at various places, took a job with paid training at Haliburton. No experience, not even a class 1 license, just a willingness to work. Oh and guaranteed, he'll make more than any driver at H&R, Bison, CPX or any other countless cheapo outfits.
The opportunities are out there. But you guys go ahead and blame others for your problems. -
And driving our trucks for us.
Ok. -
So lets see:
4 years of Liberal gov. = X amount of temp workers
6 years of Harper gov. = 40% increase from X.
So a program started and run by the Liberals has only increased by 40% in 150% of the time. That's an annual decrease.
And it's all Harpers fault. Yea OK.
Edit: And the Tories only had a minority gov. for much of that time. So if the program is so bad, why didn't the Liberals, NDP and that wart on Canada's #####, the BLOC do something to end it?Last edited: Jan 13, 2013
