I didn't ask, but I did ask what he's getting for fuel mileage. He stated 6 mpg minimum per truck.

I would ask more because the cost on a 2004 won't be the same as a 2012 it really don't sould like a bad deal I pay my drivers 25% of what gross is so it's really more last year each truck was around $200,k a year each driver made around $60,k but I pay taxes and w2 the driver so after workmans comp the matching of taxes ect after fuel I only made $22,k per truck so the drivers made way more than I did

That sounds about right. And I would like to thank you for treating your drivers as true employees, not trying to scam them as ICs.

I edited my last post. He'll be giving me a 1099 at the end of the year if that matters.

1099 Means no benifits, no workmans comp, no social security taken out, no taxes taken out. So a the end of the year you will be paying all of that back in just like if you owned the truck yourself. That 50 percent is great till you figure atleast 30-40 percent of that will be going back to the government and what ever else at the end of the year. I would run as fast as i could and never look back.

Don't forget the unemployment insurance, that won't be paid. Meaning there will be no unemployment compensation, should you ever need it.

Yeah I had a gig where i could of worked in construction as a IC for a company paid on 1099, started doing the research and all of the other stuff that comes with being a IC and im still here driving. That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

I have run into many drivers that run for mercer contractors and I can not remember any of them being unhappy. Eli Wesley has about 30 or so trucks on with mercer and none of his guys have ever complained that I can remember. He lets them run as they see fit..Mercer is a very good company as is mercer gives you complete control over what you haul or do not haul. When I went there they said they would help me do whatever I wanted to do. If I wanted to be succesfull they would be glad to help, and if I wanted to go broke they would be glad to help also.
