call me crazy but i enjoy that line of work. i was a ups driver for a while after college before being laid off several times (go teamsters!!!!) and then drove a straight truck unloading on a bread route. i asked my teacher if he could recommend anything similar and he suggested pepsi, coke, and a local beer outfit. im still in my twenties so i think ill manage for a while before bidding on a cake route like mdbluecrab. they drive auto daycabs??? how come? im learning on a freightliner sleeper tractor with a 48 foot trailer as of now. i suppose automatics are ok since its mostly city driving???

on sideload they use mostly new internationals. in transport and bulk we use 10 speeds just getting ur cdl u would most likely hire on for sideload. side loads do gas stations,c stores cvs, walgreens etc most stops are within 5 miles of each and u need a truck with a tight turning radius and thats low to the ground because depending on where u go u might cant get under the gas tops

im a part time pepsi transport driver out of the Orlando plant and i havent worked more than 4 days in the past two months. sucks being a part timer and being at the bottom of the list. im really hoping things turn around soon because bills are stacking up and going back OTR is starting to look like my bail out.

I'm in the Transport Division. We transfer trailer loads from our production plant to other plants and distribution centers from Maryland up to Kearny, NJ and west to Johnstown, PA. All drop and hook with an occasional live unload. I got this job through notification from Indeed Jobs.Com. Went on-line, did the application then went through the interview and a bunch of other notifications before being hired. Took about 2 months before I started but I was also on the road at the time and that's what slowed the process.
You can probably get a job anywhere with Pepsi in a side loader (city delivery). Getting into Transport is going to take a lot of patience and time. You'll need to have at least 2 years driving a tractor trailer before they'll even talk to you and you're not going to get that in a side loader. Your best bet is to get hooked up with a decent over the road outfit for at least 1 year then start putting in apps at Pepsi or other outfits. Pickings are going to be slim for you as you're just getting out of school.
So you're out in California? It's a whole different culture out there but love the warm weather. I bet you miss eating Marylands crabs. Nothing like it anywhere in the world.
Good luck to you and remember in this line of work, you never stop learning. -
We have slowed down a little bit here also. I'll start off with a couple nights of 2-3 stops, 350 plus milers then the last 3 days are usually 440 - 490 mile single stop runs. I average more miles than the other drivers because of my hours. I get twice as much done, not having to deal with traffic (love my 8pm start time!).
Hope things pick up for you soon. Stay safe. -
its all good when i work i get good loads that pay me enough so im good but thx and be safe out there driver

Can I ask how many years of class A experience do companies like Pepsi and them usually require? We're new to this, but I know my husband has always wanted to drive for Coke. -Thanks for any responses

first off how dare u mention that here .. lol just kidding anyway some guys go right out of school due to the fact u r most likely going to start on a sideload with a automatic transmission thats with beer and soda the bulk guys are hired from with in and as for transport when there r openings u have to be experienced
