You guys crack me up spreading false info. This is the most laid back driving job out there.
There is no truth to cell phone audits as of yet. Is it being discussed yes... The ones who talk all the trash are the ones who have been rejected..

If a truck driver working for Walmart chooses NOT top have a cell phone with him in his truck, would this be O.K.?
-
yes your not required to have one, the never call you.

I'll add a little different perspective to this thread.
I recently drove dedicated for Wal-Mart for almost a full month in upstate NY. Ran from DC to stores and back, DC to DC, stores to vendors. The things that really struck me about this company was the professionalism, comradery, and laid back dispatching. I really enjoyed the experience. Sure, not all of it was drop and hook, and sometimes it took a long time for a live unload, but for the most part the unloads were quick. They gave the dedicated drivers plenty of time to make destination (which I didn't take advantage of because I like to run hard) and the dispatchers were for the most part very friendly. The trailers were for the most part in good to excellent shape. The DC's also seem to look for every little excuse to feed their drivers some decent quality food and their driver lounges are immaculate, along with the restrooms. All the store employees treated me with respect and friendliness at all times.
And the Wal-Mart drivers. I've never met a group of more friendly and helpful drivers anywhere. They treated me like I was a regular.
So the bottom line is this: if they treat their driver-contractors this well they must be a heck of a company to work for.Last edited by a moderator: May 31, 2013

Vito, you are right about that. I drive for a mega carrier on a Walmart dedicated account for over 4 yrs now and have been doing Walmart loads almost every where in the US, going from shippers to WM DCs, also doing store loads and being dispatched by WM dispatchers... and every DC has very friendly, polite, professional, respectful and laid back dispatchers. However, I must say that I have encountered a few dispatchers here and there that would talk to OTR dedicated or "pop up" drivers as some call us a little different than Walmart fleet drivers. I mean, somehow cold, not so friendly. But I can understand that... one thing that catches my attention is that many times when I go use their restroom (I am a female), very soon some lady dispatcher goes in there too... sometimes just to wash her hands or look around...

If you are on the same lot in proximity to a driver who hits an objectr, you get scrutinized for not reporting it.

Yes, you will sign off on a form that you will not have a phone in the truck. This includes any type of phone, PDA, laptop with wifi or phone card and skype type of devices. Also if you ride a member of your family they must either sign off on the same type of form or also submit their billing for the ride period. Afterward, if you are found with a phone in your truck, even non working, you are discharged without recourse.
If any of you doubt anything I have posted or have questions, ask any Wal Mart driver or even contact the safety office of any terminal. They are not keeping this secret.mje Thanks this.
