1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

its better if u get in with the city and haul there thrash for them , i get paid overtime ,and u have good benefits , u usually have a set schedule ,depending on the city's budget u don 't have to work overtime , also the trucks r usually in good shape ,and u also have a mechanic in house tolook at it in case of any problems, u wont get rich but you'll make decent money, and be home every nite , i work for a city down in texas , and i enjoy doing my job , usually the work is monday-friday ,sometimes saturdays ,and holidays off and paid!

I drive a trash truck and for the most part I like it. I am salary but if you break down my pay I average $26 an hour + company paid bennies but its just health no dental vision. I have been doing this job less than a year so I feel I am very lucky. I work for a small company with only 3 trucks all doing residental for now but early next year we are getting a roll off and I am likely to be operator of that truck. Thats why im here researching roll off pros and cons. Any how just thought i would throw this up to let ppl know its worth looking into trash haulers. I was going to go OTR after trucking cdl school and this job droped into my lap 2 weeks before Schneider Oreintation. Should mention my dad drives one of other trucks and been doing so for near 12 years..... maybe more.

I think the guy who drives 18 wheeler for another company from local transfer station to landfill is only making about $100 - $150 a day. About $45 for a 110 mile round trip up a nasty Mt and back. He puts LONG days in to get 3 loads. I have class A but feel sorry for that guy and wouldnt trade places with him for double what he makes. So "trashy" is not ALWAYS bad. I set my own hours, have seen my "boss" 3 times in the 11 months ive been here. Have charge accounts at all local stores to get anything i feel i want to do the job, pick any mechanic to do anything i feel needed to my truck no questions ask and pay check is there every thursday. Never had DOT or any law enforcement bother us. Before I got this job I worked in warehouse for 12 years at $13-16hr. Honey hole I think, lol.
