I went to school with an 8 year old dui. But it was the only one at that time. ON RECORD. The second one 2 years later was in another state and never appeared on ANY records. I got #### lucky with that one. It was never treated as a second offense in 10 years. I have no idea why. But 12 months probation with no tickets and it was a done deal. Not even a criminal history came with it to expunge.
I never knew about the second dui ban from ever having a cdl.
Companies usually ask about dui's in the last 10 years. So 12 would be good to go.
I don't remember if i got grilled on it or anything when i went to school. That would have been 15 years ago. I do know a lot of students got sent home for drugs.

thank you, been waiting for your reply, everyone has good stuff to say but no one said they are actually driving, having a dui in their background, Have any company recommendations?
-
I'm just curious as to why nobody's mentioned prime in Missouri ?
If I was a noob and read all the stuff on here , they seem to have the best pay package for new rookies. Sure their trucks are slow but, as a new driver ya don't need to be running quick an fast.
Am I wrong in my assumption?Last edited: May 24, 2017

Don't use your name

I don't have any recommendations. I went to the school and did 4 weeks out of 6 OTR training. The rest of my career has been with local companies for the most part. With the exception of 6 of the last 7 years being OTR due to local wages going to craps when the economy crashed. But them companies were in state also. I won't work for companies that are big. Never have you home. Smear your DAC. And use elogs. Although i DID work for one briefly but left shortly after the elog was installed on my truck.

When you get your license check out the Wadhams Enterprises companies. I don't know if it would be a good idea or not to call and talk to them before you get your CDL, or not.
Anyway, they're not bad as trucking goes, they hire both noobs and experienced drivers who need a second chance. I worked for their fuel division, ARG Trucking, and got hired there after I got fired from a different company for wrecking a truck in a black ice spinout. Keep your mouth shut and do your job and they'll leave you be. The pay wasn't horrible. Check your local paper, they probably have an ad in there now. -
You are now on the best website in the USA for truckers and especially new people wanting to start a trucking career.
Since you want a trucking company sponsored program, apply to a few and make sure they know about the DUI's if asked. Read the question carefully on the application:
"Have you EVER had a DUI?"
"Have you had a DUI within the past XYZ years."
In some cases you may not even have to list 12 yr. old DUI's, so read the question carefully.
TransAm was mentioned, but they don't have cdl school. They hire drivers with DUI's that are over 2 yrs. old.
Try those already mentioned; England and Swift.
Carolina Logistics is pretty lenient also so apply there.
Which county are you in, in New York?Dumdriver, UsualSuspect, TROOPER to TRUCKER and 1 other person Thank this. -
Sometimes I pull links to websites that I have never visited before. Im not up on them. All I need is TTR right here. There are posts about dui, dwi within TTR for searching going back across something like 5 million posts and counting.
I do try to help a little bit, sometimes it's wonderful other times it's more of a problem. Don't worry about it.
Trucking used to be a industry in which you could come out of the Pen however many years you served for anything except theft related crimes and get into work driving a semi. And rebuild your life from there such as it is. The way things are going downhill I don't think this is true anymore.UsualSuspect Thanks this. -
It's also a good idea to clean up your criminal history. Dui's can be expunged from criminal history. Usually 10 years from last dui is required. And depending on your state procedures. Lawyer not required in Utah.
