Yes, entry level for a BNSF Conductor is 67K a year and 72K for an Engineer. You can add up to 20K if you get on the Extra Board and are willing to take everything they give you.

BTW, Railroaders are the biggest crybabies on the planet....I once heard one whining because he only got $9000 back on his taxes.

For 2 years after I ad my heart attack I drove railroaders around, until I could get back in a truck.

I have checked into it before, the website is kbrjobs.com. I was told you have to have a year or two experience. I had a buddy that went to kuwait driving. He drove for a while then took a desk job. He says even in kuwait, you do not want to work outside the wire. He was there for 2 years. In Iraq you will be hauling mostly feul which doesn't quite agree with explosives and incindiary bullets.

I would not want to go my self, but is the Streets of the USA any safer? Not really if you think about it. More people are killed in 1 or 2 cities in the States each month than in the entire country over there.

I met several who has returned. Most are healthy and no problems. I met some who were wounded. Yes lost of limbs but in other wise in great spirits. I had a Friend who was in the Marine reserves who went in 2004 and returned in 2005. When he returned I mentioned I seen he made it ok, his remark was the insurgent knew better to mess with him, he'll kicked their Behind. Now you had to seen him to understand him. He was not Tall, or overly sized. In fact he was a short , almost to short to be in the Marines. But most if not all Marines are a little ####y..

    From the website:

It should be understood that this position may be located in a hostile area and possibly in a combat or war zone. This could include the possibility of suffering harm at the hands of hostile forces or by friendly fire. It should be further understood that these dangers are inherent to work in a hostile environment

Maybe if I was 30 years younger I'd consider this. Far too old for this foolishness now. Great opportunity for the X-Games generation.

Since they had an attack this morning that killed over 130 people, I would have to question your idea that US cities are just as dangerous. And i see fuel tankers running around the states all the time, never see anyone firing RPG's at them, and I have yet to encounter any roadside munitions while driving the highways here in the states.
