first rule, slide your tandems all the way forward, there WILL BE tight turns.

i run downtown Boston 5 nights a week.

IT IS NOT truck friendly, for whatever reasons, the streets can be shut down for construction, and there are absolutely NO detour signs, or escapes for large trucks. true, the cops ONLY KNOW car get a rounds, NOT trucks.

if you have to stay overnight, hope and pray they do not lock up the porta john. there may be a place or two nearby for food, that you will have to walk to. if the Red Sox are in town, expect traffic to mess with you until you get past the ballpark area.

your delivery is on another road across from mine, i have to take Summer st. and go past the convention center.....you have to take Seaport

    good luck.

    ADDED CONTENT:

the cops actually can be of HUGE HELP if you need them to stop traffic.

they really ain't a bad group of people, they know we are there for our job too.

if any road construction has just started, they will actually stop it, for you to pass, going one way, then you may not be able to get back out. .

i cannot say for sure you can park overnight on the street, but i HAVE SEEN trucks parked in the past at various construction sites.

as per usual, lock your doors. if you have to get out of your truck for any reason, shut off the engine and take the key with you, there can be homeless people, and others that well, might go for a joy ride.

any of the tunnels you may need to get there or get out, you can use, BUT as stated earlier, STAY OFF STORROW DRIVE...!!!!!

there should be NO low over passes for you to worry about.

traffic is 24/7/365......sorry, but Boston is a major city, and it is a busy seaport area.

Or you could pretend to be a freight hauler who thinks they don't have to deliver their load to the customers dock, and call the receiver from a good parking spot 10 mi away and tell them to "come get their freight" because that's as close as you can get your truck ! ! ! Har-har . I crack myself up !

Isn’t 25 the exit for western avenue and downtown Brighton? If so that won’t be too bad...but going into Cambridge and by Harvard forget about it....Before I went otr I worked for a environmental transport company hauling trailers for asbestos we were in Boston every day and it sucked. Stay off storrow dr! And be sure to get a map of Boston do not rely on a gps. Is my best advice for you

    You could just say no.
That’s what I would do. Then I despise that area.

We have made calls like that now and then believe it or not. The last time we had difficulty with certain mangled directions out of our Dispatcher via satellite vs reality in NY route 9 and NJ etc area we ended up getting a contact information in the middle of the night of the people who originally bought the shipment and getting them to their vehicle to go find us about 20 miles or so and guided us in to the next LTL Drop which turned out to be a School House which was not a place you out a big truck overnight.

However they wrote a note to law enforcement that might stop by to hassle us with a phone number contact to verify that we in fact are delivering to that school house next morning (Saturday am of all things. with what people and whom? Not these two nice people, not with 6 pallets of oranges from Florida) and told us that we will have their part of the load off in the morning there no problem.

Sun came up. We come out and found 30 students in a class room next to the trailer being briefed on how to unload a semi.

30 lumpers I thought. Possibly free volunteer labor maybe? Then, hm, how much is this group and they never heard of comcheck at all in their lives. To whom do we pay? Those kinds of questions in my mind.

Well the 30 kids had the 6 pallets of florida oranges off that trailer in a few minutes. The problem was spouse took three pallets on her side of the line inside the trailer and I took the other three. The kids sorted themselves in one big line to get it from the spouse. (They were kids) I pitched in trying to take potentially as many oranges off her. (Knowing Im going to pay for this in some way today... to the spouse who was hurting by now.)

The last two stops were no less memorable. One was to a little house with a garage and the last one was aiming a 53 foot trailer at a carport blind side down a surburban culdesac (or circle at end of dead end street with houses around it) Blind side backing at 2 am waking up the entire neighborhood.

They were more than gracious, 50 kids came out to help get the rest of the load so we can be gone in a few minutes. Im just sorry we never hit that carport target in that particular backing. Big trucks just are not enough to get into something that small that way.

In the end we got it done with the help of good kids and people. But we wont be doing that again willingly. We managed to get Dispatch on our phone with conference with DM and pointedly asked for a couple or three plum loads that were pay very well and not touch anything to help ease the pain of that particular load for morale purposes. Dispatchers gave us 4 loads that were high dollar and very good after.

If all trucking was trouble free like that no one would have anything to complain about at all.
