Replace a wheel or risk a horrific accident....let me think, hmmmm.

Wheels are CHEAP. Even the aluminum ones. The price of a wheel would not stop me from getting off the side of a highway.

You can't limp a flat or blown out supersingle anywhere. The post was about driving down the road with a flat. Obviously not a supersingle. Didnt mean to throw the subject off. I just mentioned super singles and shipping container tires, as i dislike both. Containers tires is more like hate.

Current DOT guidance is to limp the vehicle to a safe place IF: it would be less dangerous to continue moving than it would be to be a hazard on the side of the road.

2 adjacent trailer tires or 1 super is considered "disabled".

Not currently at hand. I'll see if I can track it down. Might not be until tomorrow.

The bit about the tires could be argued to be more dangerous to continue.

It's often faster to limp to a tire repair than make a call and wait for a service truck to come to you.

I had a feeling you were going to quote 396.7. You are right that section says this. Just beware. Notice it says safe place NOT the next exit or a tire shop 20 miles down the road. Also notice the way that section is worded should mean this is in the drivers opinion it is safer to drive then stop. In general when you encounter that word EXCEPTION in the FMCSA rules put your CYA pants on. The thing is once a DOT cop starts an inspection and lists a violation in it it is VERY difficult to get that crap out of the Federal Data. If you run into a dick cop they are going to say in their opinion you could have stayed put.

I'm not trying to start a font war or give you heck. Just be VERY VERY careful with EXCEPTIONS like 396.7 B.
