I broke down yesterday out in Iowa. After about 7 hours (DPF injector plugged) my truck was ready- but I couldn't stay at the repair shop. There simply was not enough room and they didn't want overnight parking in the street since there were truck stops just down the street anyway. I didn't go far... I just had to drive about 4 miles to find the first available parking. Being on E-logs, it automatically put me on drive time- thus violating the 14 hour rule. I did note the circumstance in the remarks section on my E-log.

I wasn't trying to pull a fast one here, just trying to find a safe (and legal) place to park a truck after a lengthy break down.

Anyone have experience in this type of situation? What did your company say?

First I would have done exactly the same. But understand legally if anything would have gone wrong you were legally over hour and you would be held liable for any damages incurred.

If you would have stayed just a little longer to 8 hours, you could have move legally under a split. But if you were forced, DOT can take that up with the shop too.

Doubt it. The truck was in the shop and paperwork would have showed that they were not in the sleeper.

If you are forced from an area u must log it driving. Just make sure to get a name... U are aloud to get to a safe place if you run out of hours you got 2 hours to find parking. You can be on duty for 24 hours aday if u want but u still need a 10 hour brake.. hope this helps
