Did not read thru to see if anyone else addressed this.
The quote that the other driver made was appropriate for the load, if your information is correct that you gave. Actually it is kind of low.
If he has 3 tractors, each weighing 25k. that is 75K, which is more than you can put on your truck as a devisable load. So you would need 2 trucks for the load.
Also, how wide are the tractors? IF they are over 102" you will need oversize permits. And have to run under the permit rules. If this is the case, then he bid really low.
And that is not even getting into the lane. What is available on the other end to get you out? Is it considered a forhaul or backhaul lane?

i think you have made a slight mistake.?? i did not say any of that in the quote box, that you have my name in.....the o/p did. he has admitted to having a felony, claims no school will take him (yet he goes by assumption, not fact, as he never tried calling them or going to them in person), he's got a dad who can teach him, he doesn't want to really listen as to the insurance companies maybe giving him a hard time, etc,etc.

i'm going to get out of this one, it's a useless endeavor to try and talk any sense into him as he knows it all, as a few others have said already.

The quote messed up, for some reason it had it listed with your name instead of Makasouleater. Don't really see how that happened, unless I pulled the copy of the quote that he wrote from your post, in which case I apologize. I just wanted him to look at the numbers, and ask himself if he knows enough about trucking to make a call like that. Since he seemed to think that the price quoted was very high. But when you start to think about it you see that it was not high at all.
There were even more questions to ask yourself before you book any load. But I just went into a few easy ones.

It would if he saved his money during those 20 years, bought his only semi and taught you how to drive it. You guys make it sound like owning a tractor trailer making you some kind of millionaire. The average person could own a semi for how cheap they go. But if you feel the need to pay some one 6 thousand to teach u, what am i going to say.... A CDL is as easy to get as a d class, if you have the equipment, and study how to operate it. Which is why truck driving is considered a non educated, non skilled occupation.
Running a business making money is a bit harder.

you are correct on several things. yes, imo getting a CDL was not hard. yes you can obtain a CDL without school. and finally, yes you can get a "company job" without a school certificate. I am guilty of all three. the point I was making was, just because your dad has driven for years (just like mine has) does not mean you will be a successful driver. maybe once you start you will see after 6 months that you don't really care for it. we are all humans with different likes and dislikes. I was simply stating that jumping in head first into the O/O thing might be a bit radical. i cannot speak on the abilities to get insurance and all the other things associated with being a true O/O because ive always been company. to each his own. I wish you tons of success in your future endeavours .
