Driving Teacher Allegedly Drunk During Lesson

If he was convicted, doesn't that make him drunk, not "allegedly drunk"?

I was a driving instructor for a few years and we would joke that the job would be much easier on the nerves if we were drinking.

But there is a big difference between joking about it and actually doing it.

Personally speaking, there is not enough money in the world to get me into a student driving instructor job. Now back in the dark ages, the cars that were used by the student driver training programs in the schools were dual controlled. They were usually donated by a local dealership, with some help from the auto maker.

I know that this had to be quite expensive, but in my mind there are some areas where spending a few extra bucks make sense...

I remember when I was getting my license at 15 years old, my driving instructor, who was my old 5th grade teacher, had fallen asleep in the car while I was driving. I decided that was a good time to practice going through a "drive thru" so into McDonalds I went. The other two kids in the back seat were scared of getting in trouble. My instructor woke up when the guy came on the speaker and asked for my order. The teacher asked what was wrong with me and I said "Oh, sorry. You want anything?" I was told to go back to the school. When we got back there we had a meeting with me, the instructor in the car, and the head instructor at school. After a little scolding from them my instrutor (the old 5th grade teacher) left the room and the head instructor asked if he had really fallen asleep. When I told him yes, he did, he just started laughing and said that was the funniest thing to happen in all the years of him doing the driving instuction. He told me if anyone asked, to say what I did "was taken care of" so nobody else pulled a stunt like that, but he was letting me slide because of how funny it was. I'm sure he and the other instructor ended up having a good laugh about him falling asleep. If that happened now he would probably lose his job. But back then it was just a funny thing that happened at school.

    Big Don Thanks this.

Yep, those were some funny days. Busy summer days, I could easily work 15 hours. I had both gas and brake pedals on my side; most cars only had brake pedals on the instructor side. My hand could be on the steering wheel quicker than a blink when needed, and I always knew who and what was around us. By the end of the day, I was tired. My boyfriend at the time couldn't understand how I could be tired when I was sitting down all day.
