You clutch a rear end shift/engagement just like trans. gear folks. Power dividers,Lockers,2 spd rear ends. And why for the love of Jesus wouldn't you have your traction devices already engaged before your on the hill or on slick road conditions. Also leave them engaged while going off the grade. There are many other driving tactics for slick conditions but that's another thread.

Because all trucks do not have power dividers and lockers. I wanted to see if it could be done without traction aids, and it can. A single screw truck, open diff CAN be safely driven up slick grades without spinning out.

One more thing...there was a USX truck on the ramp at the end of the 459 loop that was creeping along. The ramp was banked left and curved left. He was rolling at 5 mph and his trailer slid left. As soon as a tyre goes off the road, you're done. That creeping along stuff gets you guys in trouble every time. If your trailer starts to slide on a banked road, creeping is just going to make it worse.

Pretty long winded explanation Hammer ;)

Keep your momentum high and your revs low and shift very smoothly.

Here in the north we leave our power dividers engaged from Oct. to April with no issues at all, won't hurt a thing. Power dividers break when drivers engage them at the wrong time.

379 has it right on. Stay out of torque, & into the rpm's keeping what road speed you can. 'Nuff said.

That's a Schneider and a can hauler in an antique Shaker. Dry and dusty is challenging conditions for those two.:biggrin_25519:
