Sorry, I didn't make it across the Canadian border. I have crossed a dozen times in the last 2 years, and have been given the "yellow card" for inspection, 3 times and was allowed in. So here is the latest info I have learned related to background checks and Canadian Customs/Border Control.
If you have had certain deferred charges, like 2nd deg assault or unlawful detainment, that were dismissed on your record, Canada now treats those as if they were convictions, since you had to plead guilty in court as part of a plea deal. With a deferred sentence, if the defendant completes all the terms of probation, it is removed, or dismissed; but is still shown on the record unless it can be expunged from that record.
So, no more Canada for me. I guess a person who has a record of defending himself and putting the attacker in the hospital, is just too dangerous for the Canadians. No big deal though, since Canadian freight is hardly my bread and butter business; just more of a novelty, change of pace thing I liked to do.
I found another truck and found a place in town to do a load transfer. Spent half a day coordinating that, another half day waiting on the truck, and a half day spotting the reload and re-tarping the load. Now I'm sitting over the weekend until Monday to head back to my usual stomping grounds in the South. The load will still be on time as originally planned, so, sometimes we get lemons and have to make lemonade. What's new?
