That is correct, I have both a step and a reefer. I bought the reefer soley for the Alaska trip, and now the reefer is sold.

Is it worth hauling reefer to alaska, will do it for 1 summer only.
-
Well think about this, Each load I see going up is round trip as most stuff gets barged in and out of Alaska and theres no gaurantee for a load out of Alaska. So if you scored a haul back out into Canada or the lower 48 then you will be sitting pretty dang good.

There is quite an area where 2m Ham covers but you must have a CN permit added to your liscense and it's a bad thing to try to fake it in Canada. I have talked through Echolink from Va to alot of stations along the Alcan. Check what food you can bring in also. They are really weird about foods containing meat.

like canadians don't find the US of A to be funny about meats an veggies/fruit??????
back in the day the north dakota orange growers were threatened by canadians carrying american oranges back into N.D., in january no less. oh wait north dakota doesn't have citrus crops either -
No different than crossing into the U.S., meats, veggies and fruit are forbidden. You used to be able to take said products across the border if you could show they were purchased in the U.S., but even that practise stopped a few years ago.

Chains are mandatory for CMVs over 27,000 kg (59,524 lbs) from October 1 to April 30 on the routes mentioned. Maps available here.
And any other routes not mentioned if you're smart.Mommas_money_maker Thanks this. -
I lived in Fairbanks for 6 years and have been down the ALCAN. It is a nice drive. If you need info on the Fairbanks, North Pole area send me a message.

I've never worked for a carrier that ran overland frieght to Alaska. I wouldn't even know where to apply to do that.
