There are a few fuel stops in Anchorage, Tesoro etc, but like you said, they are fuel stops, not truck stops, and some are pretty tight getting in and out. I haven't driven a truck up there, but my brother lives in Anchorage and I've been there visiting. Big place. Lots of one way streets when you get into town so I hope you pay attention. You can't just turn left a couple of times and think it's going to be a trip around the block if you get turned around. You can wind up going the wrong direction altogether and get lost. And there are roads up there that are spooky in a four wheeler much less a big truck. So be careful.
If you go through there and have the time and money to rent a car and take a trip up towards Wasilla or down towards Cooper Landing it's worth the effort. Beautiful scenery. There's a Harley dealership in Wasilla if you're interested but you better have some money. Prices in and around Anchorage tend to be a little higher on some things and a LOT higher on others.
And watch out for Moose. They'll walk right out in front of you and stop and just look at you like you're stupid.
Be safe FIRST!!! Hometime doesn't matter to dead men. -
sterling,ak was a low of -27 and a hi of -20 sunday 12-16-2012 in the yard at my mechanics shop. that's down here in the banana belt. good time to get the 3406-b inframed,if there is a good time

A low of -27 and a high of - 20 ? .. That sounds lso harsh. I was watching one of those reality shows on Alaska, a fellow took a cup of hot coffee and tossed it out of the cup in the air, the liquid turned to ice before it the ground. Yet I too have the desire of Alaska . It's still some what wild and raw.. Oh yeah, and cold...

its a trick. -

About the hot coffee, what I thought of when seeing that was breathing while in the temps, yes certain creatures thrive in the temps yet that's what ran through my mind. Summertime must be nice but I can't imagine Alaska above 80 + .. As mentioned I would enjoy a visit. Back to reading your experiences...

A buddy of mine is taking a load up Fairbanks this week. I've always wanted to take a load up there, but in the summer, to heck with the cold.
