Just my 2 cents. I like the hear the truck running. Then when somthing sounds funny I know that the truck is running wrong or somthing isn't right.

I don't think it's wise, you need all the senses available to avoid accidents. Maybe plug one ear and switch ears every hour.

I've got tinnitus after 41 years of pounding up and down the highway. I wear ear plugs the odd time especially when running into a strong crosswind. It really helps at the end of the day cuz you don't have that buzzin' and ringing as bad. Funny thing is you would think you can't hear anything but what I find is that it stops all the " white "noise that's constantly around you. I can hear the radio quite fine, actually turn it down. I can hear emergency vehicles etc. I don't wear them for extended periods or in the city but just enough to quiet things down. As far as being spoiled, yeah we probably are now as opposed to yesteryear but road noise after awhile is road noise no matter how you slice it.

I have perfect hearing but that doesn't mean that I don't have problems hearing after I drive a truck for a day. I wear ear buds that are not plugged in and it cuts the low noise in the cab and it helps. Now the thng is that the ear buds don't block out noises like horns or sirens, both I can hear clearly.

I wont comment one way or the other, except to say that you need to protect your sight and hearing. If your company provides ear plugs for free it means that OSHA has determined that prolonged exposure at that sight will harm your hearing, hence the obligation to provide protection.

haven't heard of a law against it, other than wearing ear plugs might contradict the hearing requirements of your physical, but don't really believe its a good idea. Just my opinion though.

Stayin back is basically right about the noise, he was a lil harsh on you younger folk but anything that distracts your hearing may be frowned on by D.O.T. Come on truckers, lets stick together. we're all we have.
