Here is the regs again, I'll even highlight the word must it for you...
4.3.1.2. Vehicle Motion Status
(b) If an ELD is required to have a link to the vehicle's engine ECM, vehicle speed information must be acquired from the engine ECM or the vehicle's databus.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
I bottomed out of time one night. In the middle of NOWHERE before we had the PC thing, I was kicked off a shippers property with 5 minutes of drive time. Not wanting to get a violation I pulled over, signed out of the ELD and continued on for almost 2 hours until I found an open parking spot at a truck stop. You look at my logs and it showed I went off duty and that was it.
Now when I sent on duty the next morning it showed my location as different than when I went off duty but it did not log the drive time. Just location changes. Not the best thing to do but I avoided a violation. Sorda. -

I had peoplenet and did it often. It would not show up on hos report or on my graph. However it would show up by location where i logged off duty and then on duty. I was qurious and emailed my logs to my personal email once. It is very ovious when you look at them that you logged off duty at one location and onduty at a different one.
They company I worked for could also run a report of miles driven without being logged. I got stuff done so they never said anything about it. They always acted like they didn't know it was happening so if something happened they could play stupid. I informed my boss that I was doing it to get the stuff done that he wanted. I also told him if I went down he and everybody else was coming along for the ride.
