I was removing my cam and dropped that forward nut into one of those oil drain passages. I had one of those telescopic magnets but wasn't able to get it with that because it doesn't bend. I'm going to buy a flex magnet and try again today.
Does anyone know how deep they go? Am I gonna have to remove the head now?
Oh and on a side note, I bought a new cam gear bolt because I head they stretch. Do I need to replace and of those ones that hold the cam down as well or am I fine to reuse them? The cam is only coming out so I can replace the bearings while I have everything apart for a bull gear replacement.

Me I would replace the bolts just to be on the safe side. Cheap insurance
Broke Down 69 Thanks this. -
Note to self, put something in the oil drain passages so I don't drop anything into it.
Grubby and PhilKenSebben Thank this. -
Yeah I don't know how I forgot. The good news is I looked at photos of the head online and none of those oil passages look bigger than the nut. The bad news is the flexible magnet I bought was a little big and didn't fit everywhere so I still haven't retrieved it. I'm going to find the smallest one possible today.

Only other thing I can think of if you can't find it is to drop the pan and see if it made it out the bottom?
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
Pan is already dropped, I didn't see anything. I'm 99% sure it's too big to fit from looking at photos of the head online. I stopped by 7 stores today and no one had a small flex magnet I needed lol, they're all too big. Ended up ordering one online with 1 day shipping

Powerful vacuum?

Small magnet epoxied to a metal coat hanger worked for me when I had an ohshat incident
Grubby, Short Fuse EOD and Broke Down 69 Thank this. -
Last resort for me. Still a bunch of oil pooled everywhere so I don't want a giant mess inside my shop vac. My tiny flex magnets get here today, supposed to have 2LB of pick up strength. We'll see how that goes

Good luck!
