As there are many types of trailers. Ours are all multi=axle, some loaded, some not. It makes a difference. When you're dealing with an 80k load, yes, I mean load, you need a bit more finesse.
Dropping one an inch off the ground, without dumping the tractor air, can easily damage things very quickly, you have to be extra gentle.
And that's the key to the whole process, being gentle on the equipment.

I know there are alot of tractors out there that have no dump valve for the tractor suspension. Makes me wonder what the companies idea is with that? Save a few bucks on tractor cost, versus trailer damage?:biggrin_25525:

Oh, and just dumping the air and pulling out? You missed a step. Once the pin is pulled, pull ahead 1/2' or so. That way your pin has been moved out of the saddle, then dump the air. You guys that do have a valve know what I mean. Nothing like having that funny feeling when the pin does pull out and have the rear of the tractor drop. Makes for a scary sound. That is, if you care.

And all this can go elsewhere, such as strained backs and other damage to a driver trying to crank a trailer up or down. Most of us have had to hook trailers an idiot dropped, and sometimes it hurts.
