your trainer NEEDS to be in the jump seat at all times while your driving. How does one train from the sleeper?

You don't go to Oregon much do ya? They have camera to catch ya if you blow the scale, and they aren't shy about sending tickets. My boss is pretty familiar with the process of forwarding the driver info to the state so they can send it to the driver...

No texting or talking on the phone when driving, I just missed the sign. No reason to lie

Well its not a moving violation just a fine. You get only a few mistakes overlooked when your in the training period so pay attention bro cause you will get canned if you start racking up screwups then you will come back and start a thread if we know anyone that will hire you with 3 tickets and two accidents in three months. PAY ATTENTION. GOAL. BE CAREFUL.

Too focused on the road that you ignored the signs?
    Tunnel vision, perhaps?

It'll get easier as you gain experience. You'll relax more as you trust your truck and driving abilities more.
Then, maybe, you'll have time to notice and read those signs.

I cannot believe that your trainer was not up in front, or at least told you to watch the signs.

Signs, signs, everywhere are signs. You have to condition your eyes to seek them out automatically.

In fact, it's amazing to me how little I paid attention to signs before I started driving a truck. I had no idea the difference between Interstate, US, and State highways, especially the highway numbers, or that mile markers actually measured the number of miles from the state line.

If you don't learn to look out for signs, you're gonna miss a highway number, miss a turn, then you're gonna get lost, then you're gonna try to turn around in Farmer Bob's cornfield, or the Corner Church parking lot, and cause a mess.
