I won't spend a dime down there ever again.. we used to go to Ocean City about once a month in the summer, and I'd drop a pile of cash while there. Not anymore though. I'll go to Jersey or drive right through Maryland and Virginia to the Outer Banks.

    Actually it's worse than that.

Maryland in many areas passed laws for example banning stock pickup trucks riding on say 40 inch floation. The bumper must be stock height plus or minus a few inches for example.

I had several older cars that were too old to be under much of that Commie type oversight and did quite a bit to them within the limits that were possible. I think they call those sleepers. Don't look like much but hes still with you through top end.

I can almost pick out the one rest area in Maryland and would take a guess at it publicly. It would be the one west of Jessup TA but east of the 495/95 loop. Lawman is always crawling through there. Otherwise its I70 approximately east of New Market, there is a wonderful old one that was on side of a ridge back in the day.

I don't regret leaving Maryland behind, I live in a relatively free state, you can run 40 inch floation if you like. Just so long the tires are DOT legal for highway use and not say rock crawling type not for highway use.

Get yourself a cooler and put some red bull or some Starbucks double shot espresso in there.

The Red Bull works wonders, the Starbucks not as good but taste better but make sure there’s a bathroom on the way because you will need it.

Every single driver has driven drowsy and or tired.
The key to a long career is knowing to stop before you're sleepy

That I will agree with and know your limits you can drive for a bit drowsy but you had better be looking for somewhere to stop

A 15 min nap can give me at least 2 hours or more in my experience, I've been driving for 8 years. I get plenty of sleep every day, I work a evening shift and so around 1am, sometimes my eyes can get tired when driving. I usually push through ok, but every now and then it gets the best of me. That's my fault how when I have a family to feed?

I'm a #### good and safe driver and pride myself of being safe. I pretrip my truck and thoroughly every single time. I have a binder full of level 1 inspections that I've passed with not one issue.

It just makes me shake my head at the enforcement agencies making all these frivolous rules, eld mandates, hours of service, csa points ect ect.

YET, when it really counts to not drive drowsy, they say "not my problem"

Just shows the fmcsa is not out there for safety, but money and control. Deep down, they DO NOT care about safety one bit, it's all a farce.

Anyhooz, thanks for the replies guys, sucks to see others getting harassed just trying to be safe drivers and I'm truly sorry for it. They contradict themselves left and right and we are the ones that take the blame, punishment and fines.

To be honest, the info about a drunk driver crashing into my vehicle and that making me at fault I feel is incorrect.

Once upon a time I broke down in side of road. Had triangles out, etc. About 20 min later an accident occured about 1.5 miles ahead of where I was in TN.

Got into debate with fire truck, with tow truck dudes and multiple police. My truck was inoperable. I apologized that I couldn't move it, and they were forced to make traffic jam make space. I was ticketed heavily. I beat these tickets in court.

Purpose of me telling this story is this: if this situation occurs to you and your not legitimately broke down, it can cause a whole lot of extra wasted time and money later.

The side of a road, I can't say iv ever allowed myself to get that tired where that was my only option. If I get tired like this, xit ramp halfway up or further, entry ramp, rest areas, many other options. Only because people crash all the time.

In this industry you have to plan ahead, and at times you have to be creative for your own safety. I will welcome a parking ticket on a ramp over driving exhausted. Because reexplaining the ticket to a potential new employer is easier than explaining an accident. Plus your still alive after you awake.

There's lots of tips and tricks out in the interweb of things that will help you push through till parked. But nothing will fix the head nod other than actual sleep.

If you want a reference to help you out with some tips your welcome to or not search on YT for a video I made called

Top 5 Trucker Secrets to Staying Awake

Just always keep in mind, if I run 600 miles, il have at least a handful of places jotted down for a nap or parking spot. If it's a 100 miles I still have at least 2 places jotted down.

    Hope this helps

Was any part of your truck hanging out over the white line into the actual on ramp? Those guys deserve a ticket.
