Most megas hair test. I wouldnt even risk it personally, but you should have stopped smoking months ago if you planned on getting a trucking job. Thats just what we have to deal with living in this “free” country.

If you wait 6 months to test clean on a hair test, do you have to cut your hair too? Does being clean remove the evidence from existing hair? I'm not an expert, but I've read that it can stay in the hair for a long time. I've also read that they can take a hair sample from another part of the body where the hair grows more slowly. Is that true? How often do people test positive in a school or a company?

If you clean the hair with solution to remove evidence of drug use, the test will show "deception" which is bad news.
I don't know all the details.
Maybe @Moose1958 or others on here can be more precise.

Because the DOT does not regulate hair testing I don't generally have any opinions about it. I have heard that different labs have different cutoffs and there are no industry-wide standards. This lack of standards and the problems with some racial hair types is the primary reason the DOT has not changed the testing rules required by the FAST Act signed into law by Obama. So I guess my best answer to that question is ----

Just a note of caution though! I don't know just how many carriers report unsuccessful completion of orientations but many do so. While a positive hair test won't show up in the clearinghouse, a being sent home for one might turn up during any future carriers during the required investigations per Subpart C to Part 391.

My best recommendation is to stop using the prohibited substances PERIOD! If you have and want to know what will show up on a hair test, go buy a home testing kit.

I found an owner operator that is taking me on so no more stress about hair test. All around better situation. More money and no mega carries.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you go about asking the awkward question of whether they do hair tests?

An owner operator that owns 6-10 trucks is not going to do that. Hair follicle testing is very expensive. I do know for sure Western Express is urine only. Honestly, use someone's phone and call the companies. I wouldn't use my own phone because most companies can record your phone number

    Zoltan1a and Tchulkaturin Thank this.
