Unfortunately, I don't think that example works though. Usually they're just drawn to one another like moths to a flame... but they don't really know why. :biggrin_25525:

Meth really messes up your mind, body and appearance. Makes you literally look like a walking corpse. I'd rather be hooked on any other drug.

    Thanks for the replies, everyone.

Obviously, I'm not looking at this as the silver bullet that's going to fix all my problems. I know I have a lot of work to do to lick this no matter what I end up doing.

I guess my question really is, is this the kind of career that will help me beat it? Because basically, these days that's my biggest concern when it comes to any choice I make. I want to be sure I'm stacking the deck as much as I can in favor of staying clean.

go to rehab before stepping foot into a tractor. Drugs are everywhere like stated here. You can find speed at any truckstop just about if you ask for it!

You're not attacking the problem correctly. If you like meth, it is out there. You just have to look for it. Trying to be away from it won't work, because like I said, it's out there. As in temptation. You have to change your way of thinking. Change from "meth feels good" to "meth can't do anything for me" attitude. Or, more simply, I feel good with normal things in life, like waking up every morning, having a job, having friends/family/kids etc. A few bucks in my pocket, a roof over my head. Dopers are using dope to hide from something, to get away from reality. Something in life they can't/won't deal with, so they turn to dope. (the easy way out). Or so they think. It sounds like you can walk away right now, but are tempted now and then. Try this, go down to methtown and hang out for a weekend, without using. If you can accomplish this without any temptations, and shrug it off, You will have come a long way. If just being near it really tempts you, you do have a problem.

You got your head in the wrong place obviously. YOU gotta fix YOU, don't matter where YOU are. YOU are responsible for YOU. No new job is going to fix YOU, take some responsibility for YOU.

Personally I hope they never let you on the road. We already got enough losers rolling around out there.

I believe the OP already has a problem and knows it. Otherwise, he wouldn't have posted his original post.

To the OP. I sort of understand what you are saying here. If I read you right, you are asking if trucking will more or less keep you away from drugs, as opposed to working in say a factory or store, where your coworkers are using.

Looking at it from that standpoint, I suppose you could say that trucking might be a help to you. But the fact is that it is available anywhere and everywhere, trucking no exception. It is just that the F/U factor is much greater in trucking.

This is something that YOU are going to have to deal with. Remember that refusing a test, is the same as failing one. Also remember that if you fail a test, it WILL follow you.

    Make up your own mind.

I would say that drug use is far less prevalent among drivers today than it was in the past, say 197-something.

I know one driver who is in AA & he talks about finding meetings while he is on the road.
