As someone else said, Reefer is normally longer runs, and people always have to eat.

Once you get used to the reefer unit starting and stopping all night long, reefer is not all that bad. People have to eat. I found as a reefer driver I had work.

I usually keep food in the truck for situations just like that one. Can't do vending machines much anymore; I'm nowhere near obese but I'm at that age where ignoring issues with your health can catch up to you quick.

I haul POV's these days but the car racket is already getting old for me (for reasons which would require a whole other thread by themselves). I was looking at returning to dry van but hated being stuck up in the northeast all the time (I can handle it but that doesn't mean I like it). I've always wondered about doing reefers, especially since (in my experience) they seem to run at night a lot, which I kind of prefer. I also don't mind longer runs, especially if I wind up west of the Mississippi or, better yet, west of I-35.

And you're right as far as the loads are concerned: even if it is the slow season for freight, people still gotta eat. Shouldn't have too many problems staying running. I could probably also pull gasoline tankers; people still gotta drive, too. I make nearly the same money those guys do but the difference is that they get to sleep in their own homes every night.

Well, it depends what outfit you work for but there is plenty of Reefer freight to keep you west of the Mississippi. Washington or California produce, Meat from the plains. Theres stuff all over. I've gotten into several good loops before. Two months all I did was run from WI to MO to WA. Then I also got into KS to CA to IL, Also ID MO to IL And the spread all over as well. If stuck you could always wind up running some cold storage to cold storage. Or Cold storage to DC. Just try to stay away from grocery warehouses unless you have excellent detention pay. If you go OO I'd recommend a Utility and TK precedent combination. If not just make sure whoever you work for takes care of thier stuff. Plenty of freight options out there depending on time of year, customers, brokers ,etc....
