Other than that junkshift, I like that isx15. Good turbo and jakes but not the computerized powertrain that is attached to that pretty red engine. Don't wanna trust my life in a truck that is fully computerized.

The more research I do the more and more I like the DD15 with a 13 speed and 3.08 gears... best cross between fuel efficiency and pulling power.

Those new GHG17 engines love to run between 1100-1200rpm... which would put me in very comfortable cruising speeds as I posted earlier. And when I wanna get home a bit faster... easily done.

Maybe not the best for pulling grade, but living in Chicago I won't be in the grades more then 25-30% of the time. Even less loaded to max...

Still debating on the 455 or 475hp engines... both have 1650 torque at 975... but the added hp may help the grade pulling a bit, but what would it to do to the regular flat efficiency I wonder...

Any opinions and advice are very welcome...

My question is, are you planning on getting this truck through SFI?

next question, when will you be purchasing it? Now? 6 months? A year? Longer?

If it's longer than a year, and getting it through SFI, all you are doing right now is wasting your time.

Who knows what SFI will have a year from now. They also lease their trucks to the company side, and all they lease there now are dd15's with dt12's, or the t680 with the usp. With the way the choice program is going, I wouldn’t be surprised if SFI will be very limited on what they will lease, and I see them pushing the dt12 in the freightshakers or the ultra shift plus in the kw's very hard for lease purchases. There is very good reasoning behind why they might do that.

Back in the day they did have a "Winter" or "Slick" mode which would essentially cut the braking pressure to the front brakes by half to help reduce the chances of a steer skid. They discontinued this feature a while back though some trucks do have an "Automatic limiting valve" that kind of acts like an ABS. They found that the "Slick" mode limiting valve didn't really help prevent steer skids and only really helped in reducing the braking power of the truck.

Part of the reason I buy cars with manual transmissions is because it gives me greater control over speed and torque in adverse conditions. If things keep going as they are the chances are high that I'll be put in an auto truck which is going to take some getting used to.

Not thru SFI, or any other lease place, I have plenty of money down and the credit to buy anything I want, little over a year, and I don't see Schneider choice forcing automatics on OO/ICs

Safety is one thing with the collision mitigation requirements, forcing truckers into automatics is another...

Over a year? Wasting your time. Lots of things change in the course of a year. SNI is seeking an IPO, that will definitely change a lot of things. The choice program and requirements are constantly evolving. It will even more with the IPO.

Best advise is to not even worry about that till you are 3 months or so from your purchase. Worry about getting a year or so safe driving under your belt and a good record with schneider first.

    Just my 2 cents.

And just to continue on the safety aspect of auto vs manual... I seriously doubt one can be proven safer then another, and with the main advantage of the auto being fuel savings, I seriously doubt SNI is going to care about saving OO or LO or IC money...

I don't understand why someone wouldn't want to take the time, ask question and prepare... this is a major life changing decision... I'm taking my time and doing my due diligence now... well ahead of time... so I will have a better idea of what to expect... the amount I have learned since just starting my research is incredible and I can't wait to learn more... I can't imagine someone closing a business down to go work for another company, in another industry, and then start a business in that new industry would take the matter lightly...

I already jumped into an industry head first... not making the same mistake again in one lifetime.

lol. I'm sure they will argue that there isn't a chance for the driver to miss a gear while in a precarious situation whilst driving an automatic. Ergo, automatics are safer.
