startpage, and ixquick are owned by the same company, both share the same privacy policy, but use different IP addresses.
I know startpage uses the google search engine, but not sure what ixquick uses. If you search them side by side, you first notice a lack of sponsored adds in ixquick results.

 

Privacy is lost when you use public domains. The internet is all public domain.(except for private and encrypted sites) Privacy concerns arise when web sites identify users and store their data which could then be used to target ads, selling of the meta data, or to use 'super cookies' that basically follow (track) you around from one website to another.
Everything I'm saying happens because the internet is designed to work this way. Avoiding the Google website by going to another search site while you use the Google browser still creates super cookies. Furthermore, using a search site that queries the Google search engine, still registers and records your "private" searches.

the only way to be invisible on the internet is to use a form of a technique that browses the internet while scrambling your data. The "IP address" is of no value in super cookies. It only matters to address the region of where your tracking info derives from. what advertisers want is what sites you visit and what you clicked and what you typed.

So once again, Google is built in to your browser and many many many sites to create revenue for web site authors.

And to further add more complicated technicalities, your service provider (meaning where your internet connection comes from) users network-level registers that tracks by using a DNS server. Meaning big brother AT&T and NSA can see you

 

Proxy servers are just relays. They only serve to tell web sites your IP address is not from Los Angeles but wherever that proxy server is based from, like maybe Delaware. Proxy servers still have to use DNS registers, which are public. If the NSA wants to find you they will simply match your "anonymous" Delaware IP address and ask your proxy provider who used that Delaware IP address on given date and time and it will list your real IP address as the source. If you want real IP anonymity you'll want to use a proxy server outside of our governments reach and encrypt your connection using a VPN within that and staying off public websites.

But again, to further complicate this subject; even when you create a connection to a proxy outside of our country that address in itself has already been blacklisted by the government. they will know that you connected to it or attempted to.

this is why you see in the movies that hackers use satellite phones to create connections outside of America

 

Two different issues... Privacy from companies and privacy from government.

Perfect security and personal privacy may not be achievable for most but there is still value in supporting those that wish to help minimize ones exposure in general.

Just my two cents worth.

 

Both are unachievable to basic consumers even with special privacy software. When FB and Google partnered up they started forming databases of their users in the form of profiles. Even upon deleting profiles your data has already been mined and transdirected to larger pools of data. the only thing they're not dumb enough to keep is your name and geo-location.

Notice how many sites can be used by registering your Google or FB accounts?
Well, now they want to see your wallet (Google wallet) .
