So let me get this right: you lost your license to drive, yet you think you should be allowed to drive for a living.
Have I got that about right? The Challenger, bikegoon, strat57 and 2 others Thank this. -
"If your license to operate your personal vehicle is revoked, cancelled, or suspended due to alcohol violations, you will lose your CDL for 1 year. If you are convicted of a second alcohol conviction in your personal vehicle you will lose your CDL for life".
"if your license to operate your personal vehicle is revoked, cancelled, or suspended you may not obtain a "hardship" license to operate"
so now my first question would be, is this your first or second conviction...???
so you either lost your license for one year, or life..which is it..??
if one year, good luck in getting another job when you get your license back......
you only had but the ONE LICENSE to operate any vehicle.....personal or commercial....i'd say you're screwed, and i can't feel sorry for you, with your years of experience, you should have known better.....and there are no excuses for being ignorant to the rules, regulations, laws....all information is out there, so do not, i repeat do not say you were on the road, you don't get to watch the news, or read a truckers magazine or two......ignorance is NOT bliss.....
and i find it difficult to believe you will get too many to agree with you about the laws need to be changed.....thank God they are the way they are now......we need to get drunks off the roads, not give them Carte` Blanc anytime they think they can get it.....
strat57, Rat, The Challenger and 1 other person Thank this. -
I have a question about this very topic.
IF I am not disqualified, I will start training in March.
I have went over Wisconsin General CDL Disqualifications and its not definitive in my case. The DOT publicatin I have only goes up to 2nd CMV and 2nd non-CMV violations. I see that things changed in 1987 and 2005.
I have 2 DUI's in 1991 and 2 more in 1998. I undertand that many companies would never hire me, but I do have one that will. I still have not found out if I am disqualified from obtaining a CDL.
I have been sober since 2000 and there is no chance that I would ever drink again. I did not just quit drinking, I completely chaged my lifestyle.
I will try again Monday to call into WI-DOT and battle their phone system to find out for sure.
Does anyone have an idea whether I am disqualified or not? -
Do you have a regular license? if so you can get a cdl...but you better make sure that company will hire you with 4 dui's.......The ones from 91 are probably off your record by now but you will need to find out for sure
BROKENSPROKET Thanks this. -
I am in as long as he can get his insurance company to insure me.
When I got my 3rd in spring of 98, it was prosecuted as a first offfense becasue the 2 in 91 had fallen off my record. But by the time I got my 4th in the fall of 98, the DUI laws had changed to lifetime violatins for prosection. -
Think you would have learned after the 1st one, I know I did. 2 in 1 year?

'nuff said right there -

I too have been through the hoops of the WI legal system regarding DUI. As long as you have not had any after the cut off date in 2005 (this from the couselor that assisted me in getting my license back) you are still eligible to get your cdl. This site is a little confusing but it helps a bit, http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/drivers/docs/cdl-disq.pdf.
As far as what Trucker said about the insurance company not taking you, like anything else, you can insure anything or anyone, for the right amount of money, just depends on whether or not the owner will be willing to pay that amount to insure you.
A good friend of mine owns his own company and has had either 2 or 3 dui's in the last 10 years. His normal insurance company will not insure him to drive his own trucks, but he has found a high risk company that will insure him to drive them.
Also, anyone else posting to Broken on here, if you have never dealt with Wisconsin on driving priviliges, rules, regs, and such. Please don't try, they have their own way of doing things and it doesn't make sense to most of the rest of the country, and if I'm not mistaken, the feds are cracking down on them to change their way of doing things to make the penalties tougher and more aligned with the rest of the country.
Good Luck BrokenBROKENSPROKET Thanks this.
