I will be at the 5 year mark for my DUI on 2-23-15. The actual date of pleading 'no contest' is June of 15. I KNOW this hampered me from getting picked up at several companies. Covenant was one that gave me a conditional offer and looks like I will be going with them.

Stevens told me to wait until the actual plead out date before applying.
Werner didn't say yes or no, but want me to provide them with the accident report as well before moving forward.

Like I said, I KNEW this was gonna be a bit of a speed bump, but it's water under the bridge and I'll deal with it like a man.

Just go with covenant, trust they are a good company that is growing plus they pay for your hazmat and tanker endorsement

I can tell you right now that if you had a DUI 5 years ago and a DUI 10000000 years ago the company WONT hire you. 1st time he learned his lesson, 2nd time HE did not learn his lesson and its too risky to insure him.

Yeah, that’s just not true. Sure, it’s true for SOME companies, but definitely not for all.

But this is a REALLY old thread. Lol.

If, within the last 5 years you've been convicted of DUI, you are untouchable. Nobody will hire you. Insurance requirements have set their own boundaries and so have the companies. The minimum time is 5 years. Some 7, some 10, some never. Before applying check the website or call for that company's requirements for DUI.

If, you've been convicted of a felony, most companies once again say 5 years, some 7, some 10, some never. If the felony had anything to do with a CMV, you are pretty much done for life. These are generally company requirements. There are some that will hire felons with less than 5 years from conviction. Beware, however, that they will take advantage of your situation and you will be paid significantly less than your counterparts without a felony.

When it comes to drugs and drug testing, every company does a urinalysis. Everyone. Many big companies are also going to hair testing too, which can go from anywhere from 90 days to a year. If you've done drugs within a year, do yourself a favor and do not apply. A failed drug test will disqualify you immediately and you will be untouchable to other companies. And that disqualification can last from a year to never being able to be hired. Most will require some sort of program to ensure you are drug free before even considering you.

While you are employed as a driver for any company, they do random drug and alcohol tests. Don't think you won't get hit for a urine test. You will. Also, its against federal regulations to have alcohol in a CMV. That is a giant no no that will get you put out of service and fired, and once again, unhirable. Best thing to do is not drink while on the road at all. And if you do drink, remember the rules. .04. That's your legal limit as a CDL holder. So if you're on a 34, don't drink the second day in. If you do, you're asking to lose your job. I hope this clears up anyone's questions.
