That's what I did. I went downtown to Haven Street Baltimore core to apply. in 15 minutes I had 2500 coming from Dear Uncle Sam to the school that week and will start that saturday in class on weekends for 4 months. Baltimore is BURIED in those days tons of jobs. All you had to do is go to the Harbor and see it's jobs everywhere nothing much for Tourists other than the USS Constellation, modeled on a Civil War version with the ballast from the 1780s ship before it. (Iron ingots down below) Sister to the USS Constitution of Boston. Flagship of the Atlantic Fleet in the world war two (State secret at that time.)

But anyway. My instructor worked for Blue Diamond in Baltimore off US 40 at the Beltway City Line (two blocks from Erdman Ave Line) I would go interview this man three times for a job and he is well aware of my situation as far as qualifications and what not. I never understood why he did not hire me. The President of the company was a family friend which was how i got the referral. Anyway it's gone, bulldozed to bare dirt below the transloading cement floors a few years ago.

I would go to a trucking company say Hahn in New Market, visit and ask if they were hiring. They stick me into a short mack, rounded up a driver and a stone trailer for a 20 mile drive out and back. I was told to be there 3 am to start work. Trainer was a female who probably to this day knows way more than I do such skills she possessed. A very good driver. Much of her original bulk tanker training was so good that 25+ years later I was able to just grab my employer in little rock, the keys to his bulk tanker and go get a load and blow it off into his silo. No problems except the insistance of Employer to fill the tanker to 110-130K gross weight on that beat up Pay star 9800. The floor failed on the interstate with me on it. Dropped a foot plus down at 70+ if I did something stupid I will die like a mashed stew. Messy. I should have quit that day. (I eventually did.)

Other employers were good to me, one in Batesville was excellent. Unfortunately I ran too hard for him. 14K montly miles or more. Instead of allowing me a week off, he went ahead and had me dismissed from the workforce about two weeks prior to marriage. Which solved some problems believe it or not.

Oh yea, you can find employers alright. Just come here and give Chinatown a message asking what about work in your preferences, he will find something you might not have thought of. In my time there was no internet, you went out and visited employers. They would put you right to work that day or tomorrow. Easy peasy. None of the grotesque paperwork, orientation or any of that hooey I see now.

If you are really good, a employer will welcome you back in your lifetime all you need is the keys to the truck sunrises and get going. Yer late.

I’ve got a Traeger wood pellet grill that I bought specifically for hot dogs. Will a trucking company let me bring it on training truck?
