Yea, or the hard hat could just become flying debris. No way that silly little hat is going to help in any way if something that big falls. Its plastic. It isn't a Kevlar helmet

Me that's who. The guy with 3.75 million safe , accident free, ticket free, INJURY free miles. The point was the " safety " equipment given out made the situation unsafe.

No it's not but it is a fairly impact resistant plastic capable of turning a hole in your head situation in to a "holy cow that was close" situation.

Back in the 80's,I used to haul submarine parts out of Bangor Washington Sub Base, into Electric Boat in Groton Ct.This is where the submarines are built. This was way before 9/11,and when you checked in at the guard house, you had to leave your cheater pipe there, always thought that was strange.I asked them why,and they said they didn't want any stray tubing left there, that could be accidentily used in the construction of the submarines.OK,makes sense.Whenever I would leave, there was a big barrel full of truckers cheater pipes that had been forgotten and left there. The guard always told me to help myself, take as many as I want, lol.

Also, back in the 80's,I used to haul Titanium ingots out of Los Angeles,to the helicopter plants in Ct. Titanium is virtually indestructible, but the shipper always wanted it tarped. The receiving guys at the helicopter plants would always chuckle, and ask us why we did that.I'd just shake my head as they unloaded it,and they'd put it in outside storage racks in the snow.

Lay-Z-Boy plant in Dayton, TN. You "check in" at a guard shack with no human being and a big sign inside that says "Use Mouse To Start Check In".

No computer, no mouse, no phone.

I call my contact number on my cell phone, leave a message. Wait in my truck for a call back for 20 minutes. Finally a yard dog comes roaring up all upset I am blocking the gate and waves me forward to get to the flatbed unloading area just in time for them to take a 45 minute lunch at 10:00 am.

Because it was worth much more then copper. Today it's very expensive. They didn't want the load hijacked.

They just didn't want salt and other road grime on it. Clean water doesn't hurt lots of this 's we haul, but we still tarp it. If I was buying titanium, as spendy as it is, if want it pretty and clean.

I know all that, but we had other titanium we hauled, that wasn't tarped.Yeah, customer preference.I'm sure there are guys here that used to haul out of Beth Steel in Sparrows Point,Md.Everything that left the plant was tarped.Even scrap steel off of,Penwood Wharf, stuff that was laying out in the mud for months got tarped, old sprung coils on it's way to the scrapper.
