There is a huge difference between a ATM transmission and an Alison transmission. I would think an Alison could work pretty good in dump work? We had them in local route trucks 35 years ago and they actually worked pretty good. I would believe they’ve only gotten better?
Heck @Rontonio runs an Alison in his HH OTR truck and I think he likes it?

I agree with ATM transmission though…. They suck!!! I can’t imagine using one off road.

I have no idea what it is.

It's just not a stick. The preferred choice of veterans.

I absolutely agree the automated manuals are a joke for vocational work idk for otr I never tried one. The fluid drive Allison’s do well off road in my experience.

If it’s an Allison it shifts like an old Hydromatic. Smooth and easy. Has torque convertor and can be controlled with throttle off idle without all the slop and no hop. Great in vocational use. School buses, mixer trucks, refuse, cranes, etc. Even Monfort of Colorado was testing them behind 1693’s back in the 70’s.

yes I have an Allison in my set up and other than a few things - I love it.

I will not be going back to an 18 spd manual.
@Oxbow when I was hauling towers - I regularly stopped on 6% plus grades at 200k and was able to start with zero roll back and zero hop.

I do not spend a lot of time in the mud and dirt but what little I do - the Allison has no trouble just idling through

Tug Toy, farmerjohn64, REO6205 and 3 others Thank this.
