I can speak to trying to get hardwood 4x4s out of those things and it's an enormous pain in the ###.

So.... what do they do with a dump truck? What about small parts in one of those big open top baskets?
As long as the dunage is below the opening I don’t see how they could say anything.

, box, or similar device that forms part of the structure of acommercial motor vehicle.
Wouldn't the dunnage rack be considered a box? I referring to nature of it's build.

Can you grab a piece of dunnage and pull it out? I know some LEO will kick dunnage that is "secured" in the landing gear, if it moves then it is "unsecured"... If they want to get anal about it.

Something that's up to an officers discretion like that I think it's better to err on the side of caution just so you don't have to waste time fighting it/DataQ/whatever...

At some random scale, don’t remember where, had a scale guy come out and sort of starts an inspection. Walked to door said get paper work in order, he would be right back. Walks back to dunnage in landing gear and gave it a good kick. It didn’t move, noticed he was sort of walking a bit odd after that. Took a look at my bills and log, sent me on my way. I watched him hobbling back to the box. Guess he didn’t see the 2 straps holding the dunnage in place.

Yeah, it's like binders stored in a lowboy, between the frame rails. No way they could come out, unless the trailer is turned upside down or is in a crash with a couple of G's of deceleration. But I suppose they are technically "unsecured".
