She would have to put movies onto a USB mem stick,.. and watch from that. Even with a DVD drive,.. thats how I do it. A couple 128gb sticks will hold enough movies till I get back home and download more.

They call them Net books. They look just like a laptop,.. but typically are cheap,.. under $500, small screen and dont offer a lot of the performance or features that a better laptop will.

I thought we were talking about a proper laptop, not some cheap knockoff.
You can go the cheap way, or the right way.

I get a new laptop about every 2 years, then pass the old one down to a family member.
It is usually near top of the line, and it WILL have a DVD. Anything less would be pointless.

But even many cheaper laptops come equipped with a DVD. A simple directed search on the Best Buy site will weed out any that don't have it. And some of them are pretty cheap.

I've never paid more then $250 for a laptop. Either from bestbuy or walmart.

They always come with dvd. I wouldn't dream of saving a buck for the cheaper things and no dvd.

There's just no value for the buck. Compared to laptops

    I see it now;

The date is November 23, 2021. The 447th comments"wait, this thread about DVD players in laptops is still open?"

The response, as it usually is, is that yes, it is. It has long surpassed the infamous right turn thread, and no one understands why.

Now if we can just get patty to post a video of her going into a local store and perusing the laptops with no dvd players, we will be well on our way.

    LOL

And dont get the HP or DELL.

Lenovo, ACER or MSI will be the more affordable but better equipped models.

    EDIT:

This to me is a nice decent laptop. Its what I am typing to you from right now. Everything I need. I replaced the OS drive with a 1TB Samsung 950 SSD. Pricey,.. but I write it off as a business expense.

Bestbuy has a laptop. $200. Comes with 14 inch screen. 2 gig ram and 32 eMMC hard drive. Dual core processor.

Bestbuy has a laptop. $220. Comes with 15.6 inch screen. 4 gig ram and 500 gig hard drive AND dvd. AND other additional ports the $200 model don't come with. Quad core processor.

I"m all for thin and portable. But not for a $20 savings that lacks all the needs of a fully built laptop.

But don't say laptops don't come with DVD. REAL laptops still come with optical drives. And they're practically the same price.
