Did you have any trouble mounting due to the heat sink on the bottom? I'm running a General HP40 , and the heat sink was kind of a problem to try to mount somewhere , and I'm really wanting to get a Galaxy 98VHP...just wantin to know if your heat sink gave any problems?

No it fit perfect in the cubby hole of the International. The compartment behind the radio has a ton of room.
The 98VHP has a thicker heat sink buy about 3/4 of an inch. The face of both radios are the same size so width is good.

If air flow becomes a problem then i will add a separate fan run off the old original CB power wires.
It will run whenever i turn the key on.

I think the fan is a good idea. Heat is what kills electronics......eventually.

If the compartment that the heat sink will live in is pretty much a closed space, bear in mind that a fan will serve to turn the space into a convection oven. For the amount of heat those rigs can generate, you may have to make sure there are vents for air to get in *and* out. If you do go that route, I'd suggest even adding a filter for the fan at the place where air enters the compartment. Otherwise the heat sink's fins are likely to load up with dust. As Mike says, heat kills a lot of gear. And dust on heat sinks reduces their effectiveness, especially when the fins can't be seen inside a closed box. If making filtered vents isn't practical, I'd suggest making the mount easy enough to release so that you can inspect the heat sink often and take a dry paint brush to it to clean the fins. Caked-on dust is a terrific insulator. Even without a filter, you'll need a way to get "new" air into the compartment so you don't end up just recirculating the same air and increasing its temperature.
Meanwhile, sounds like a great job on the insall. Nice going!

    Thanks guys!,
The internal fan it has now is just over all the holes where a speaker would normally be so it does have a decent fresh air flow.
Before warm weather hits i will have 2 computer fans up there too_One to pull cool air in and the other to exhaust it out.
I already figured the mounting spots out and have keyed power so it should work out well.

One good thing International designed was that the face of the overhead compartment snaps off and you have tons of room to work.
Heck,a small TV could be mounted up there too.

I talked a good bit last night and never seen the internal fans even come on.I was checking from time to time with my flashlight.
So far i like this radio. No problem getting radio checks from 20 miles or more away.

I was talking skip yesterday from Dover DE. to a guy in south Florida.
