In both of my close calls I had been running hard enough that the 34 was the quickest way to reset. If you have worked 13 to 14 hour days for 5-6 days straight then you will not pick up hours at midnight for a couple of days.

Sure I could have done that and still made my Monday AM delivery in LA. The route I chose had me pulling into Barstow Saturday morning with 30 minutes left on my 70, grabbing a company paid hotel room until Monday and collecting 12 hours of layover pay I wouldn't have gotten running your way.

It's basically a linear equation speed = distance/time. So it doesn't matter except when it comes to the 34. Push hard on your 11-hour clock with just 10 hour breaks, run out of time, use a 34... if one does that using the recap you have about 1/2 a day's worth of driving available over what you get using the 34.

If you burn your 70 in 6 days( Like I am now) I have 03:15 left until midnight Sunday/ Monday when I'll get 11:45 back. This week I'm taking the weekend off. However If I had a load to deliver to say Hagerstown Md monday a 34 would let me do that

Now if we spent weekends away from home I would probably run Cowpie or Ponies way. With weekends off I run more like Wysrob. Burn 'em up and take time off! -
It matters to my paycheck. I get paid $14.25 per hour If I have to wait longer than 15 hours for dispatch or a delivery or loading appointment. Running your way on that trip would have cost me a $150 and I would have slept in the truck every night rather than resetting in a company paid hotel room.
I don't run 11/10 all the time. Just when it benefits me to do so. -
I get paid percentage, fuel surcharge and accessorials. Makes no sense for me to burn-up the highways, and there's your answer to slow Prime's. The less I encourage the oil companies to dole out dividends, the more I keep in my pocket.

well, the recap only works after you sit for a full midnight to midnight, so if you hit 70 today at noon you dont gain any hours untill tomorrow at midnight. and then you only gain back what you did 7 days ago.. it sucks...
-
That's why you run 8-9 hours when you can - gives you that much back every day. Run at night (no traffic,) park mid-morning (never have the ol' no parking spot blues,) scales are closed. What's not to like?
-
yeah that would be ok, but all of the sitting around sure gets boring. id rather be driving..
-
ive never had a dispacher plan my load or when its going to deliver. they always ask me when i think ill be there. I tell them, and ive always made my own appointments.. the Day I am told I have to use an EOBR or electronic log to keep me in compliance, IM DONE...
