Yes, the 70 does not count down while off-duty or sleeper, so once you check in at your first stop go off-duty or sleeper while they load you then back on-duty just before you check out the gate, this will help preserve your 70 until you get to where you want to reset.

Off Duty AND Sleep Berth ARE the SAME as far as this exercise goes. Doing either will save time on your 70.
DJ Hughes Thanks this. -

Thanks everyone. I feel better now. I was worried I would have to choose between a late load or hos violation
HorseShoe Thanks this. -
You have the 70 hours to get to your final. Thing you have to do is conserve "On Duty" time by "whatever means you have available", and don't get caught up in any significant traffic stoppage, and drive as fast as your truck will go just as additional insurance.

With paper you logged what you did, usually in retrospect.
With elogs, if you forgot to change from On-Duty unload/load to sleeper after 15 minutes then you edit to maximize hours.
Edits raise flags at log audit departments. (if you are subject to such a department). The moment I arrive I change to on-duty and then set a 15 minute alarm on my phone. Most times it is expired before I have passed the guard shack!
Our elogs are kind of forgiving. If you are not traveling big miles or high speeds you can roll to the dock or from the dock to a parking space while in SB.
Keep one eye shut so you can say your left brain was still sleeping! hahaha
As an aside to the OP's question.
I don't consider myself on time for the appointment unless I am bumped to the dock at or before.. (Subject to huge wait times at the guard shack) Some drivers think that just getting to the guard shack line counts as on time.

Or just log off and start a paper log previous 7 days off. Voula instant 34 hour restart.
Just kidding. Kinda. Not a real recommendation. -
On my Qualcomm I can go into settings and under the sound tab there's an "apply" button in the corner.
That sucker throws the entire system into a hard reboot and I can book it about 5 maybe 10 minutes down the road before it loads everything up and signs me back in. If I'm stopped before that happens I'm still in the sleeper as far as its concernedFinkPloyd, 77fib77, bottomdumpin and 1 other person Thank this. -
Off duty stops your 70 clock....but remember it does not stop your 14.
That being said you have plenty of time to get to where you gotta go. -
Don't stress it too much. If you are a company drover (like me) and you "break" ypur logbook, usually a quick call to safety or logs can generate a fix (along with the required finger wagging and wrist slapping, you naughty driver you). Just don't do it too often, as that shows a pattern and can create issues for both you and ypur carrier.
